The Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah Surabaya established Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (abbreviated as UM Surabaya), which originally consisted of several existing higher education institutions. These institutions included the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Department of Da'wah (FIAD), established on September 15, 1965; the Faculty of Tarbiyah Surabaya, established in 1975; IKIP Muhammadiyah Surabaya, established in 1980; the Faculty of Sharia, established in 1982; and the Muhammadiyah Institute of Technology (ITMS), established in 1981.
Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0141/O/1984, IKIP Muhammadiyah Surabaya, the Muhammadiyah Institute of Technology Surabaya, and the Faculty of Economics of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik were merged into a single institution named "UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH SURABAYA." All departments within these three institutions were granted REGISTERED status based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0141/O/1984.
The Muhammadiyah Institute of Technology Surabaya subsequently became the Faculty of Engineering at UM Surabaya, managing 6 study programs: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor's in Architectural Engineering, Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, Bachelor's in Naval Architecture, and Associate Degree (D-3) in Computer Engineering. The five bachelor's degree programs were established in 1984 pursuant to the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 0142/O/1984 dated March 9, 1984 (copy attached), and updated with the addition of the Associate Degree (D-3) in Computer Engineering in 1993 under the Higher Education Decree No. 138/DIKTI/Kep/1993. Over time, the educational process across the study programs of the Faculty of Engineering, UM Surabaya, has proven to run well, with all study programs receiving ACCREDITED status from BAN-PT in 2013.
